Aurora Entertainment was proud to produce our largest and most ambitious flashmob to date for Air Asia’s extraordinary milestone – winning the global “World’s Lowest Cost Airline” award for the 16th consecutive year.
Set in the heart of one of Melbourne’s busiest public spaces, this high-impact activation was designed to do exactly what a great flashmob should do: stop people in their tracks, ignite excitement, and turn everyday commuters into an engaged audience.
Performed on the hour, every hour inside the bustling Melbourne Central Station, the flashmob unfolded in a space filled with constant movement, noise, and energy. This made the challenge – and the reward – even greater. Each performance was carefully timed and staged to cut through the chaos of peak foot traffic, transforming an ordinary transit hub into a high-energy celebration of Air Asia’s global success.
Booked through Melbourne Entertainment Company, Aurora Entertainment curated and produced the full flashmob experience, collaborating with one of Melbourne Entertainment Company’s stellar DJs to elevate the activation even further.
Without warning, performers emerged from the crowd, seamlessly blending in with commuters before bursting into a precision-choreographed, high-impact routine. Within seconds, confusion turned into curiosity, and curiosity into excitement as crowds gathered from every direction.
The performances were:
- Bold, energetic, and visually dynamic
- Designed to build fast and finish strong
- Perfectly suited to a public, fast-paced environment
- Backed by a live DJ soundtrack that amplified the atmosphere
Every performer wore branded Air Asia T-shirts, each printed with QR codes that allowed onlookers to instantly connect, engage, and learn more about the brand. This clever integration ensured the activation wasn’t just entertaining – it was interactive and measurable, seamlessly linking live performance with digital engagement.
The response was electric.
Shop owners abandoned their counters. Pedestrians changed direction mid-stride. Commuters literally ran toward the performance area every time they spotted our performers emerging for the next flashmob. By the second and third performances, word had spread – audiences began anticipating the next eruption of music and movement, proving the activation’s ability to build momentum throughout the day.
Delivering a flashmob of this size and frequency required detailed planning and flawless execution. Aurora Entertainment managed:
- Performer casting and large-scale choreography
- Rehearsals designed for public-space performance
- Costuming and brand alignment
- Coordination with DJs and event partners
- Timing and logistics for repeated performances
The result was a seamless, repeatable spectacle that maintained energy, precision, and impact every single hour. This flashmob stood as a perfect example of how live entertainment can turn brand recognition into a shared experience.
